We are looking for an Project Management Intern to assist the operations team with the day to day administrative functions of project management for the company. This paid internship will provide the student with relevant skills in the construction industry.

The Project Management Intern will work closely with members of the project team (project manager, assistant project manager, and project coordinator) to learn about the construction process, from an administrative perspective, and daily tasks required to advance a construction project from start to finish.

Responsibilities

  • Learn how to manage the project budget by writing contracts, reviewing/approving expenditures, assembling and distributing invoices.
  • Learn how to create and maintain accurate project schedules.
  • Learn how to coordinate subcontractors and resolve issues or conflicts that arise during construction.
  • Learn how to expedite documents and material/equipment/labor to meet project schedules.
  • Learn how to review, process, and distribute pertinent project documentation.
  • Learn how to prepare substantive reports for distribution to others.
  • Learn how to administer control and organization of project documents.
  • Learn how to review/submit for approval shop drawings and submittals to maintain compliance with contract documents.
  • Learn how to author weekly reports in collaboration with the Project Superintendent.
  • Learn how to manage close out procedures in accordance with the contract documents.
  • Learn about construction safety and how to enforce company safety rules and regulations.
  • Learn how to develop and maintain meaningful relationships with members of the project team.
  • Learn how to conduct implementation and tracking of LEED requirements to support the green building initiative.
  • Learn how to process subcontractor payment/vendor invoicing requirements.
  • Attend project related meetings and assist with the preparation and distribution of meeting minutes and attendance rosters.
  • Learn how to manage close out procedures in accordance with the contract documents.
  • Act responsibly in a manner shows support for the company, its values, and the employees, while maintaining focus on meeting and exceeding customer requirements and expectations.
  • Demonstrate expanding knowledge of construction process and construction management process

Prerequisites
 
  • Current or anticipated enrollment in Construction Management or Engineering field of study.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop new skills and knowledge quickly.
  • Ability to travel as needed to participate in on-site meetings, site walks, etc.
  • Demonstrate expanding knowledge of construction details about miscellaneous metals, casework, doors, specialties, radiation protection, etc.
  • Strong computer skills including the ability to use Microsoft Office Suite, etc.
  • Possess good organizational skills and strong verbal and written communications skills.
  • No experience is required but prior internships or work experience is helpful.

Physical Demands:
  • Dexterity of hands and fingers to operate a company laptop, iPad, phone, and other business equipment.
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand and walk. Generally, the job requires 60% sitting, 25% walking, and 15% standing.
  • Ability to communicate orally with management and other co-workers is important. Talking, hearing and vision within normal ranges is important for conversations, to receive ordinary information and to prepare or inspect building plans, blueprints, and drawings.
  • Activities include extended periods of standing or sitting and extensive work with measuring devices and other machinery.
  • Heavy lifting is not expected. Exertion of up to 10 lbs. of force is occasionally required.
  • Please note that climbing stairs is a physical requirement. Some offices contain an elevator, but one must be able to use stairs for fire drills and emergencies.



Work Environment:
The job is performed indoors in a variety of settings, including the office, interior building job sites, and job sites outside. While performing the duties of this job on a construction job site, the employee may be exposed to wet and/or humid conditions; moving mechanical parts; high, precarious places; fumes or airborne particles (before the use of air scrubbers); outside weather conditions; extreme cold and extreme heat. The employee may potentially run the risk of being exposed to toxic or caustic chemicals, risk of electrical shock and risk of vibration. The noise level in the work environment is occasionally loud. Personal protective equipment (hard hat, safety glasses and vest) and safety gear (including appropriate clothing, shoes, and gloves) are required on job sites.
